Reasons to End a Relationship

Reasons to End a Relationship

Katwoman You’re in a relationship and you’re starting to wonder if it’s really the best possible environment for you to be in. Here are some key reasons why it might be better for you to part ways and end things sooner rather than later.

- Zero chemistry. No relationship will stand the test of time if there isn’t any chemistry happening between the two of you. There have to be things in common outside of a physical attraction in order to make it work. If you guys can’t relate on some sort of level, the appeal wears off fast. Real fast.

- Abuse, whether it be physical or emotional mind games. Okay, for many, this is a no-brainer, but if you’re already invested into the relationship when abuse begins rearing its ugly head, then denial may be outweighing your logic behind sticking around. Abuse rarely gets less the longer you stick around with an abuser. If there is any form of abuse, this person is not right for you. Don’t stick around waiting for things to get better. Take a stand for yourself and get out. If the other person threatens to harm you or someone you love, if you leave them, don’t take any chances. Even go as far as to alert the local authorities so that the threats can be documented and put on file. If the person threatens suicide if you leave, it’s an even clearer sign to not stick around. Don’t be held hostage by someone else’s threats. You deserve better and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

- Instead of looking forward to the next time you’ll see your mate, you dread it -- and even go as far as cancelling plans at the last minute, not because you have to, but because you would rather spend Friday night by yourself than with her. With everyone’s hectic schedules in this day and age, free time is few and far between, so when you have it, you should be spending that time wisely with someone you want to be with. Life is short. Make the most out of the time you have.

- When you think about your life a year from now, your mate isn’t part of the equation. Okay, so you might not even know where you’ll be a week from now, let alone a year from now, so this one may not hold true for everyone, but for those of you who do know where you’re going with your life, do you see your girlfriend there in the picture too?

- You start arguments on purpose in the hopes of one day ticking her off well enough that she breaks up with you so that you don’t have to do it yourself. As juvenile as that sounds, I have a male friend that wimps out and does that when he’s in a relationship he wants out of. He even admits that he does it. In that case, maybe she’d be better off without you anyway.

- If you and your significant other are intellectually incompatible, sooner or later one or both of you will become frustrated because of the inability to communicate with one another. After all, communication is the key to any successful relationship. If the two of you can’t converse, then what are you doing together? Sex skills will only take you so far, guys.

- If your mate tries to change you and has issues with you just being yourself, then the relationship isn’t right for the two of you. It’s one thing if your mate is helping you be a better person, but if they go as far as to criticize you for being you, then that’s just a disaster waiting to happen.

- If you find yourself lying about things on a regular basis for fear of hurting her or even disappointing her, you should consider ending the relationship. You shouldn’t have to lie and she shouldn’t have to be with someone who does lie.

- If you have the urge to cheat because you don’t want to be tied down, then end the relationship before that happens. It might be difficult to tell someone you want to see other people, but honesty will win out in the end. Be upfront. You’ll sleep better at night if you are.

Of course, if you don’t want to be in a relationship with the other person – or, quite frankly, with anyone -- then that’s a good enough reason to not stick around. A relationship can’t grow with only one person contributing to it. It takes two dedicated people to make it work. If only one person is doing the building while the other is off having a siesta, daydreaming about being somewhere else with someone else, cut your losses early and move on. You’ll both be happier people in the end.
